Mega
Two Akademia's Pstryk artists: Marta Kotlarska and Juliusz Karolak have transformed a sea container, situated near Vistula river in Warsaw (Poland), into MEGA - camera obscura. Using this untypical device they've captured two pictures, each of 10 sq. m. It is complicate to prepare such big exposures. To cover all the surface of planned photo, they had to spend more than two hours in total darkness and silence of the container spreading rows of light-sensitive paper. The exposure took only 6 sec. After it, the container had to be transformed once again, this time into the darkroom. It took next seven hours to develop each picture to its final negative stage. The results of the Mega project were exhibited at the walls of the container and every member of the public was invited to come inside this surprising camera. Installation Mega was part of project transForm by STEP Association for Education and Progress and Transformations Art Festival by the Vistula - a cycle of cultural events on the Vistula inspiring a general debate on the development of the Vistula embankment in Warsaw, carried out as part of the preparations of Warsaw to gain the title of European Capital of Culture 2016. All artistic events managed by STEP are yoking together the issue of the river's revitalization and modern art. The art is presented as a process of transformation - of artist and viewer alike - unveiling the technique as well as examining the interaction between artist, observer and space.
